Europe by River

WHY EUROPEAN RIVERS?

Grand capitals, idyllic châteaux, storybook castles, and rich traditions from celebrating nature's beauty to winemaking are just a few of the things you will experience on an incredible European river journey.

Experience the cultural treasures and enchanting landscapes of five European countries as you cruise along some of the continent’s most scenic rivers: the Danube, Seine, and Rhine, and Douro.

The best time of year for a River Cruise

September and October are generally considered the best months for European river cruises. The Rhine & Danube are two of Europe’s longest rivers, the best time to enjoy a river cruise through this part of Europe is the summer and fall when you’ll experience warm weather and sunny skies. The season tapers off in the fall as temperatures begins to drop.  There are several December cruises that explore the region’s traditional Christmas markets which are not to be missed if you don’t mind the cold.

The Douro River flows from the Atlantic Coast of Portugal through central Spain and the Seine flows from Paris to the North Sea at the English Channel.  These two regions have relatively similar temperatures throughout the year.  Summer is warm and sunny followed by a comfortable fall and a chillier winter. Many of the cruises through Portugal and France focus on wine tasting and vineyard tours, which are best enjoyed during the warm summer months.
